ORTHOPAEDICS SA Chairman, Associate Professor Peter Cundy, Orthopaedic Surgeon, is a former scholar and was Westminster School Captain in 1973. The relationship continues today, with current School Captain, Ella Liptak, the eldest daughter of OSA Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Matthew Liptak.
Many of the students at Westminster have been treated for broken bones and orthopaedic conditions by A/Professor Peter Cundy, both at ORTHOPAEDICS SA and at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Peter Cundy is the Head of the Orthopaedic Department at the WCH. Alongside him at ORTHOPAEDICS SA is Dr Matthew Liptak, who has treated many of the parents and grandparents at the school for their ACL, knee injuries, as well as knee and hip replacements.

Peter Cundy is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 25 years’ experience treating all forms of paediatric and adult orthopaedic conditions and injuries. He practises both privately, at ORTHOPAEDICS SA (North Adelaide), and publicly, at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he has headed the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2005. After completing his original medical and surgical training in Adelaide in 1980, he undertook a Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School, USA). He returned to Adelaide, in 1989, and joined the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and has since held many senior positions including President of the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society, Senior Orthopaedic Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Chairman of ORTHOPAEDICS SA.
In addition to his practice, Associate Professor Peter Cundy has developed broad experience supporting surgery, developing standards of excellence, and sharing and promoting research in Paediatric Orthopaedics. He is on the Editorial boards of several, major peer-reviewed paediatric orthopaedic journals in Europe and the United States. He is also a Board member of MIGA, a leading Medical Defence insurer in Australia.

Dr Matthew Liptak specialises in Sports injuries and Joint Replacement, especially the knee and hip. He is involved in a number of research projects, looking at surgical ACL techniques, and rehabilitation following total knee replacement. Practising privately with ORTHOPAEDICS SA, Matthew consults at Flinders Private Hospital and Blackwood. He is a Visiting Orthopaedic Specialist at Flinders Medical Centre and Repatriation General Hospital. Dr Liptak graduated from Flinders University, Adelaide, in 1996 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 2007. Following this, he completed a Clinical Knee Fellowship (Sports & Arthroplasty) with the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and visited with several centres of orthopaedic excellence in the UK, US and France.
